पंचवीस वर्षांनंतरही पार्ले-जी ५ रूपयांनाच कसा?

मला चांगलं आठवतंय की लहानपणी शाळेत ‘पार्ले जी’ चा बिस्किट पुडा मिळायचा.

आजपण लहान मुलांमध्ये ‘पार्ले-जी’ खूप प्रसिद्ध आहे.

या बिस्किट पुड्याच्या पॅकेजिंग मध्ये काही बदल झालेत मात्र’

आश्चर्याची गोष्ट म्हणजे सुमारे पंचवीस वर्षांनंतरही हा बिस्किट पुडा पाच रुपयांना मिळतो.

असं जरी असलं तरीदेखील बिस्कीट मार्केटमध्ये या कंपनीचा हिस्सा ६० टक्कयांपेक्षा अधिक आहे.

आणि कंपनी आजही नफा कमावते असं सांगितलं तर कदाचित विश्वास बसणार नाही.

किंमत तेवढीच ठेवून कंपनी फायद्यात कशी असा प्रश्न पडला ना?

चला तर मग या प्रश्नाचे उत्तर जाणून घेऊया या लेखातून.

कुठला व्यवसाय करायचा असेल तर सगळ्यात आधी ग्राहकाचा विचार करावा लागतो.

मग कधी नफ्याशी तडजोड करावी लागते तर कधी किमतीशी.

ग्राहकाला कमी किमतीत जास्त मालाची अपेक्षा असते.

ज्याला ग्राहकाची नाडी सापडली, ग्राहकाला काय पाहिजे हे नेमकं कळलं,

त्याचा उद्योग चांगला चालतो आणि नफ्यात पण राहतो.

पार्लेजीनं नेमकं तेच ओळखलं आणि त्यानुसार धोरण ठरवत पंचवीस वर्षापासून

बिस्किट पुड्याची किंमत वाढवली नाही.

आता जरा फ्लॅशबॅकमध्ये जाऊन बिस्कीट पुढे ची सुरुवात कशी झाली,

त्याबद्दल जाणून घेऊया.

देशाच्या स्वातंत्र्यपूर्व काळात देशात परदेशी माल विकला जायचा.

बऱ्याच विदेशी कॅंडी भारतात विकायला होत्या पण,

सर्वसामान्य माणसाच्या खिशाला त्या परवडत नव्हत्या.

त्यावेळी देशात स्वदेशी आंदोलन चालू होतं आणि

भारतीय व्यापारी मोहनलाल दयाल यांच्यावर या आंदोलनाचा चांगलाच प्रभाव पण होता.

त्यावेळी त्यांनी ठरवलं की भारतात अशी कॅन्डी बनवायची की जी सामान्य लोकांना परवडेल.

त्यानंतर ते जर्मनीला गेले आणि तिथं कॅन्डी बनवायला शिकले.

१९२९ मध्ये भारतात परत आले आणि जर्मनी वरून येताना त्यांनी

६० हजाराची कॅंडी बनवण्याची मशीन आणली.

त्यांनी हा व्यवसाय मुंबईत विले पार्ला मध्ये फॅक्टरी घेऊन चालू केला.

जागेच्या नावावरून कंपनीला ‘पार्ले’ नाव दिलं.

१२ जणांना सोबत घेऊन कामाला सुरुवात केली.

सुरुवातीला पार्ले न ऑरेंज कॅण्डी बनवली.

त्यावेळेला इंग्रजांचे बिस्किट महाग आणि फेमस होतं.

मग त्यांनी कॅंडी सोबतच बिस्किट बनवायचं ठरवलं.

१९३९ मध्ये ‘पार्ले ग्लुको’ ( parley gluco )नावानं हे बिस्किट बनवल.

दुसऱ्या महायुद्धाच्या वेळी सैनिकांना या बिस्किटांचा पुरवठा करण्यात आला.

आणि स्वस्त असल्यामुळे बिस्किटांची मागणी देखील वाढली.

इंग्रजांच्या बिस्किटांची मागणी कमी झाली आणि पार्ले ग्लुकोज ची मागणी इतकी वाढली की,

कंपनीला प्रोडक्शन बंद कराव लागलं.

कारण प्रोडक्शनसाठी लागणारा गहू उपलब्ध होत नव्हता.

काही दिवस असेच गेले आणि या दिवसांमध्ये पार्ले ग्लुको सारखे

अनेक ब्रँड कॉपी करून भारतात आले.

म्हणून १९८८२ मध्ये पार्ले ग्लुको चं नाव बदलून ‘पार्ले-जी’ ( parley g ) केलं.

लोकांमध्ये पार्ले-जी इतकं फेमस आहे की किमतीमध्ये किरकोळ वाढ झाली तरी

आपण बाजारपेठेतून बाहेर फेकले जाऊ शकतो हे कंपनीच्या लक्षात आहे.

त्यामुळे कंपनीने पॅकेजिंग आणि ट्रान्सपोर्टचा खर्च वाचवला.

यासाठी शहराच्या सात किलोमीटरच्या आतच फॅक्टरी चालू केल्या.

त्यासोबतच पार्ले जी चे हाइड अँड सिक, मोनॅको ,ट्वेंटी-ट्वेंटी

यांसारखे प्रीमियम प्रॉडक्ट विकायला त्यांनं सुरुवात केली.

नफ्यात राहण्यासाठी पार्ले-जी न एक जबरदस्त मार्केटिंग फंडा वापरला.

किंमत न वाढवता त्याची क्वांटीटी ( quantity ) कमी केली.

सुरुवातीला पाच रुपयाच्या बिस्कीट पुढ्यात १० बिस्किटं असायची,

त्यात आता ७ च बिस्किटं असतात.

आणि या फंड्या मूळ पार्लेजी अजून फायद्यात आहे.
